Turkish Antarctic Expedition-2 (TAE-2)
Turkish Antarctic Expedition-2 (TAE-2)
From end February to the beginning of April 2018, AntarctiQ was the service provider for the Turkish ITU Scientific Research Project Unit in support of the execution of the TAE-2 expedition (2017-2018 season) campaign to Refugio Luis Risopatron (Robert Island). The expedition started from Punta Arenas Chile and was composed of 40 people, including AntarctiQ staff.
Part of this scientific team traveled by ship down to 68° south for studies focussed on marine biology, oceanography and bathymetry. A group of scientists stayed on Robert Island for geophysical studies on the terrain in total autonomy for 1 month. A base camp was installed in the vicinity of the Chilean Refugio Luis Risopatrón station, and daily trips around the island were organised to collect amongst others rock and biological samples.
AntarctiQ was responsible for the pre-season deployment activities: equipment and supplies selection and purchasing, equipment check and conditioning for transport, training assistance, providing the necessary assistance in expedition planning, organising and executing, logistics to seaport for final leg.
During the Antarctic field activities, AntarctiQ provided technical support such as the basecamp build-up and its management, logistic and technical support, second line assistance and science support. Once the mission accomplished, AntarctiQ will tookcare of the return logistics and provide the necessary input for the end ofmission reporting.
